Jesus Is the Head of the Church!
And [Christ] is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Colossians 1:18
Your brain is pretty amazing! It controls everything your body does. When your brain tells your legs to walk, they walk. When it tells your arms to reach for something, they reach. Your brain is the “boss” that gives instructions to the rest of your body!
The Bible says the Church (that’s all the people who believe in Jesus) is like a body, and Jesus is the Head! Just like your brain controls your body, Jesus should control the Church. And guess what? If you believe in Jesus, YOU are part of the Church! That means Jesus should be the Head of YOUR life too!
So what does it mean for Jesus to be our Head? It means we should listen to Him and follow His instructions! When we read the Bible, we’re learning what Jesus wants us to do. When we pray, we’re asking Him for help and guidance. When we obey what the Bible says, we’re letting Jesus be the Boss of our lives!
Some people say they’re Christians, but they don’t really let Jesus be the Head of their lives. They do whatever they feel like doing instead of asking Jesus what He wants. But if Jesus is really our Head, we should follow His instructions!
Think About It: Picture your body trying to work without your brain telling it what to do. Your arms would just flop around! Your legs wouldn’t know where to walk! That would be crazy, right? Well, trying to live without letting Jesus be the Head of your life is just as crazy! This week before you make decisions, try asking yourself: “What would Jesus want me to do?” Then do that! That’s what it means to let Jesus be your Head!
