Have you ever lost something really valuable? Maybe you lost your favorite toy or a special gift from a grandparent. It feels terrible, doesn’t it? You’d do anything you get it back! Now imagine if someone told you they had buried a treasure chest worth millions of dollars—but then they forgot where they buried it! No matter how much they dig, they can’t find it. All that treasure is just sitting underground, completely useless to them because they can’t get to it!

This shows us that treasures on earth can be lost or destroyed. Your favorite toy might break. Money can be stolen. Even the biggest, fanciest house can burn down or get destroyed in a storm. Nothing on earth lasts forever!

But Jesus told us about a different kind of treasure—treasures in heaven! These are things that can NEVER be lost, stolen, or destroyed. So how do we store up treasures in heaven? By investing in things that last forever!

Only two things will last forever: God’s Word (the Bible) and people’s souls! So when you read your Bible and learn about God, you’re storing up treasure in heaven. When you tell someone about Jesus, you’re storing up treasure in heaven. When you’re kind to others and show them God’s love, you’re storing up treasure in heaven!

Think About It: Think about how you spend your time and money. Are you storing up treasures on earth (stuff that won’t last) or treasures in heaven (things that last forever)? If you spend all your money on toys and games, those are earthly treasures that will eventually break or get old. But if you give some of your money to help spread God’s Word or help people in need, that’s a heavenly treasure! What’s one way you can store up treasure in heaven this week?
