Will the real Christ-followers please stand up?
You’ve probably been a little alarmed—as I have—at how often we find it difficult to tell the difference between Christians and the rest of our culture.
Sadly, so much “other stuff”—from media and politics to emotions and opinions—has gotten mixed in with our understanding of the “God stuff” that it all just blurs together.
And while the struggle to separate Scripture from culture may seem like a phenomenon unique to the church of today the early church of Colossae dealt with the same thing!
Paul’s letter to the Colossians—just four chapters in the middle of the New Testament—paints one of the most vivid portraits of Jesus Christ in all of Scripture in order to help believers understand that Christ is above all and superior to any belief system promoted by any false voices.
Allow me to highlight just a few verses here to remind you of your station as a redeemed child of God, and to help you stand strong in your faith, Christ above all!
Colossians 3:1-4 says, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”
Unique instructions for living...glorious promises, too.
Seek God.
Set your mind on things above.
You are dead to the world...alive in Christ!
And glory awaits.
You must know God. To quiet the world, shake off the influences of culture—and recognize the lies being presented to you as Truth...you must know God!
In a world of counterfeits, every believer—every person—needs to know the truth about Jesus Christ. So, today I invite you to empower Turning Point with a gift of support—as we reach a lost, hurting world with the message, Christ above all.
